Couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with IBS. Nothing too serious, just major GI discomfort when I ate the wrong food.
My doctor asked me to keep a diary of food intake and symptoms to identify which foods were causing reactions. I tried several popular apps but they were targeted towards people who were looking to lose weight. These apps were focused on macros and caloric intake. Logging symptoms of IBS was not even possible in many of these apps.
So, I decided to build my own app that focused on simplicity. The result was Simpler Photo Food Logger.
Features of Simpler Food Photo Logger
- You can log foods eaten by taking photos.
- With 2 taps you can log symptoms and activities.
- You get a nice timeline view that can help you see trends and identify any foods that might have triggered your symptoms.
- There is also a Report View that let you see bigger picture and trends easily.
I have personally used this app to identify several food items that causes major discomfort for me. Some were obvious like sugar-free gums but several items were not so obvious like 4th cup of coffee. Apparently, three cups of coffee is my limit.
You can also use this app to track what you eat. Just take photo of each time you eat something. Sometimes, all you need is a bit of extra awareness of how much or how little you are eating to meet you health goals.

One of the best feature of this app is that all data stays on your phone. We don’t store your data on our servers. I didn’t want to keep up a server and worry about it getting hacked. So it is less work for me and you don’t need to worry about your data transferring over the internet and using your data plan. You just need to make sure your phone is secure like any other app.
Ads Supported version, of course, use some data but still no data should be transferred to advertisers.
